Virgil Green Interview - April 23, 2011
By Scott Carasik
Virgil Green is a Tight End from the University of Nevada. He's one of the many small school prospects that could have played BCS ball but decided to go to a mid-major school for other reasons. Currently he projects to a 3rd to 5th round pick.
Scott Carasik - What's the Virgil Green story? Where did you grow up and what kind of family did you have?
Virgil Green - I grew up in Tulare, Ca. My dad was in the army so we moved around a bit when I was younger and my parents were strict.
Scott Carasik - Why did you pick Nevada? What other schools were out there that you were considering?
Virgil Green - I picked Nevada because when they offered me they never backed out of thier offer. Some of the other schools like Boise St., Cal, and Fresno St. were kind of hit or miss and I liked Nevada's loyalty
Scott Carasik - What are your biggest strengths on and off the field?
Virgil Green - I am willing to do whatever it takes to be successful, as my Qb Colin Kaepernick says "I never fear greatness".
Scott Carasik - What about your biggest weaknesses on and off the field?
Virgil Green - I dont think I have too many weaknesses from my viewpoint, so it's hard to think of a weakness.
Scott Carasik - Who is your biggest inspiration in the current NFL? How have they inspired you?
Virgil Green - I would have to say LB Zac Diles for the Houston Texans, we went to high school together and he has gone down the same road that I have and we can relate with all the hard work that it has taken to get to where we are now.
Scott Carasik - Cortez Allen has said he'd love to lay you out when y'all get to the NFL. Thoughts?
Virgil Green - Take your shot Cortez but you know what the outcome will be.
Scott Carasik - Who is your current favorite team in the NFL?
Virgil Green - I currently do not have a favorite NFL team, I grew up watching basketball so my favorite team is the Lakers.
Scott Carasik - Going to the combine, you had some tremendous numbers and actually have one of the most quantitative athletic sets, How do you feel this will help you in the NFL?
Virgil Green - I will help a team know that they just do not have to keep me limited to just the Tight End position I can play in many different areas on the field and will use that athleticism to be successfull.
Scott Carasik - After your combines and pro days, which teams do you feel have you on their radars?
Virgil Green - It's hard to say I turned so many heads at those two events and many teams started to show a lot of interest.
Scott Carasik - Where do you think is your best fit in the NFL?
Virgil Green - I am great at adjusting to my environment so I think I will fit in well where ever I have an oppurtunity.
Special thanks to Shawn Smith of XAM Sports for setting me up with this interview.
