Anthony Walters Interview - March 17, 2011
By Josh Wingate
I personally went into the UD pro day to focus on Pat Devlin, everything changed when I started seeing players do their bench, vertical etc. My eye was caught by a couple player but one catching it more so than the rest. Anthony Walters had a great start to his pro day but just before his position drills he came up limping at the end of his second try at the 40. Shortly after I had a chance to catch up with him.
Josh Wingate: What did you run for your 40 (yard dash) today?
Anthony Walters: I'm not sure, they actually do not tell you. Yeah, I wish I would have known going in I really didn't want to run the second one. I felt my hamstring get tight on the first one but they dont tell you your time so I felt I had to run a faster second one.
Josh Wingate: Well, How do you feel you preformed today?
Anthony Walters: According to some of the scouts, I had a pretty good day. With the tests that I did do I tested better than they were expecting, I am pretty sure of it and that is all I can really ask for, you know? They have numbers where they think you might be at and if you can exceed anyone of those numbers then you're having a good day. I think I exceeded a couple of them and that helps alot.
Josh Wingate: Did you get to hear any of the numbers that they had for you?
Anthony Walters: No, but I am pretty sure that I did better than they expected in the 40, the Broad, I think everything I did acrossed the board was better than they would have expected coming in. So that is good hopefully it will open some eyes and I can get some work outs as soon as this thing heals in like 10 days or so. I will then just take it from there.
Josh Wingate: What style of coverage do you feel you play in best Zone or Press?
Anthony Walters: It doesn't matter to me, it really does not matter to me. I played corner here, I played Safety here, I played nickle and you know it's just football so it doesn't matter to me.
Josh Wingate: So in when you get the chance to play in the NFL which position do you feel you will be asked to play? Corner or Safety?
Anthony Walters: I think teams are looking at me for Safety more, but with the 40 time I think I might have ran it might help me with the versitility thing. They might try to put me in different spots because I am faster than they thought I was.
Josh Wingate: What kind of Family did you grow up with?
Anthony Walters: I grew up with my Mom, my Dad, my Brother and Grandmom. They all still live back in Philadelphia, I am actually about to call my mom right now she will want to know how it went. I grew up with a pretty good family.
Josh Wingate: Did you play any other positions when you were in High School?
Anthony Walters: I played Quarterback growing up, I played Quarterback and Corner in High school. A couple time they had me play receiver my senior year, they threw me the ball. So I was versitile back then too.
Josh Wingate: What made you want to focus more on the Defensive back position?
Anthony Walters: That was what I was getting recruited for a couple of school would of possibly let me try somethings both way. It was more about what school I wanted to go to and here they had me at corner.
Josh Wingate: Why did you decide Delaware?
Anthony Walters: At the time they were one of the best I-AA schools in the country. I had a couple of I-A offers but if I was deciding to go to I-AA or FCS it was going to be to a really good school. I can here, visited I loved it and you know I don't regret coming here at all.
Josh Wingate: Thank you.
Anthony Walters: Appreciate it.
