2010 All Speed Score Team
By Scott Carasik
My speed score is derived from multiple factors. It starts with the weight multiplied by a factor and then using the 40 yard dash, 20 yard split, 10 yard split, 3-cone drill and short shuttle times.
Quarterback

QB Tim Tebow - 6'2-3/4" 236 - Speed Score 119.23
Tebow's one of the quickest and fastest players out there. His score is that of an average-good TE and for his weight and height, he could make a switch to an H-back/Wildcat position and have a nice career there.
Running Backs

RB Ben Tate - 5'11" 220 - Speed Score 142.26
Ben Tate is one of the most underrated backs in the draft this season. He is sneaky-fast and his speed score # backs up his game tape. He is arguably the most unheralded prospect in a long, long time.

RB Montario Hardesty - 5'11-3/4" 225 - Speed Score 138.91
Hardesty is another one of those sneaky-fast guys. He is too quick and shifty for people to catch him and his overall style fits best in a Gibbs Zone Blocking Scheme with a West Coast offense attached.

FB John Conner - 5'11-1/8" 246 - Speed Score 126.96
John Conner is a beast and a half, and it wouldn't surprise me to see him on all 3 scored teams. He really brings all that you want in a fullback. The speed to get out there and hit someone, and he can catch too.
Wide Receivers

WRF Joe Webb - 6'3-5/8" 223 - Speed Score 144.74
A guy who will be switching from the QB position to the WR position. he has all the speed to make the switch. He could easily be a sleeper in this year's draft and really needs to develop his hands and route-running.

WRP Stephen Williams - 6'4-1/2" 210 - Speed Score 134.11
Williams was already a very good route runner. His questions were his hands and his speed. According to this metric though, his speed seems to be very good for the NFL and he carries his weight well.

WRS Scott Long - 6'2-1/4" 210 - Speed Score 143.27
Long has the best potential out of all of the Wide Receivers in this year's draft. He is a rough lump of coal right now though. He needs a lot of polishing to become that diamond in the rough.

TE Jeff Cumberland - 6'4" 249 - Speed Score 141.88
Cumberland is another one of those guys who is a diamond in the rough. While his speed is amazing for his frame, he doesn't have the body control you look for in a Tight End. He won't be the next Tony Gonzalez.
Offensive Line

LT Bruce Campbell - 6'6-3/8" 314- Speed Score 118.89
Campbell has the footwork to become a top LT in the NFL. I guess this speed score could be called "The Al Davis metric" though. Because he is my "fastest" LT in the draft. And the Raiders need an LT.

LG Marshall Newhouse - 6'3-3/8" 319 - Speed Score 110.51
Newhouse played RT for a few years at TCU before switching to RG. This is no shock to me and I think he will be using his speed to get to the 2nd level quite a bit in the NFL.

C Matt Tennant - 6'4-1/2" 300 - Speed Score 97.85
A somewhat slow C class this year. Tennant is the fastest, and I'm surprised that he didn't break 100 with how quick he looks on his game tape. He is normally the first one off the snap, and not just because he's the one snapping it.

RG Brandon Carter - 6'5-1/2" 329 - Speed Score 103.93
Carter scares me at the next level. I really think he will kill someone with how nasty and aggressive he is in the pile. He reminds me of Harvey Dahl, but with more size and of course, speed.

RT Trent Williams - 6'4-5/8" 315 - Speed Score 126.31
Yes, Williams has a better score than Campbell, but he is a pure RT from what I have seen on film. I love his play at RT though and with his speed he could be the next David Stewart.
4-3 Front 7

LDE Daniel Te'o Nesheim - 6'3-1/2" 263 - Speed Score 132.85
Te'o Nesheim wasn't a shock here. I was half expecting Graham to fit in, but his results on his pro-day aren't in yet since it's 2 days from now. T-N is a very solid player and I wouldn't be surprised to see him get 10+ sack seasons in the NFL

NT Earl Mitchell - 6'1-3/4" 296 - Speed Score 127.49
Mitchell is the perfect 1-tech player. FAST for his size and strong too. I easily think he will fit in on the explosion score team as well. Mitchell will cause havoc in NFL backfields for years and should be selecting rather high.

UT Geno Atkins - 6'1-3/8" 293 - Speed Score 128.49
Atkins speed for his size is not too shocking. I think he could gain 10-15 pounds though and not lose an ounce of speed. He is one of those guys that played out of position in college as a 1-tech and as a 3-tech will dominate in the NFL.

RDE Jerry Hughes - 6'1-3/4" 255 - Speed Score 132.29
Hughes is FAST. 4-3 Linebacker/Safety fast. and he plays DE or WOLB. The speed he brings from the edge will cause other teams to gameplan around him similar to how they game plan around guys like Abraham and Ware.

WLB Dekoda Watson - 6'1-3/8" 240 - Speed Score 138.15
Dekoda Watson is not just fast, but quick off the edge. FSU blitzed him a lot and for good reason. His speed off the edge will be terrifying in the NFL, and I could easily see him fitting in well with Philly or New York.

MLB Jamar Chaney - 6'0-3/4" 242 - Speed Score 138.11
Chaney's speed will benefit him in the 3-4 or the 4-3. He fits as a MLB/SILB and could very well be the pounder and leader for someone in the middle of their defense. I really think Jamar can be a special player in the NFL.

SLB Kyle Bosworth - 6'0-5/8" 236 - Speed Score 130.74
Bosworth is a true SLB. Strong against the run and the pass, but his speed should help him keep up with the TE's in the NFL. He has great instincts and could be a steal in the late rounds.
3-4 Front 7

LDE Ricardo Mathews - 6'2" 290 - Speed Score 126.09
Matthews is one of my favorite sleepers in the draft. His pass rush combined with his penetration makes him a possible force as a 3-tech or 5-tech player in the NFL. He only has one year starting though and needs technique refinement.

NT Trey Bryant- 6'1-1/8" 312 - Speed Score 108.40
Bryant comes off as a perfect fit for the plugging role in the Bum Phillips style 3-4 that uses a 1-tech NT as opposed to a 0-tech NT that the Parcells 3-4 uses. I could really see him high on some 3-4 teams boards.

RDE Tyson Alualu - 6'2-3/8" 295 - Speed Score 126.10
Alualu plays fast. He also hits hard. He played in a 3-4 at Cal and his best fit is in a 3-4 in the NFL. He can disrupt from the 3-tech, the 5-tech and the 1-tech and NFL coaches will be happy to have him on their team.

WOLB Jason Worilds - 6'1-1/4" 254 - Speed Score 134.99
Worilds is special. His speed off the end is unparalleled. But his problems with injuries could hamper his development. He is limited schematically to a 3-4 OLB though, and 4-3 teams will shy away from him.

WILB Donald Butler - 6'1-1/8" 245 - Speed Score 125.87
Butler could fit well as a MLB in the 4-3 or either ILB spot in the 3-4. Coverage is good, but his speed is where the story is. He is Tampa 2 fast and could really help someone like Chicago in their quest for a future replacement for Urlacher.

SILB Jamar Chaney - 6'0-3/4" 242 - Speed Score 138.11
Chaney's speed will benefit him in the 3-4 or the 4-3. He fits as a MLB/SILB and could very well be the pounder and leader for someone in the middle of their defense. I really think Jamar can be a special player in the NFL.

SOLB Jerry Hughes - 6'1-3/4" 255 - Speed Score 132.29
Hughes is FAST. 4-3 Linebacker/Safety fast. and he plays DE or WOLB. The speed he brings from the edge will cause other teams to gameplan around him similar to how they game plan around guys like Abraham and Ware.
Secondary

CB Chris Cook - 6'2" 212 - Speed Score 130.79
Cook is nasty fast. His size and speed make him the project every NFL team wants. I believe he winds up a Tampa 2 CB or a FS in the NFL though. He will be patrolling the deep 3rd for someone for the next decade.

CB Brandon Ghee - 5'11-5/8" 192 - Speed Score 127.79
Ghee is a big physical corner who is fast. That's like gold in the NFL. I wouldn't be shocked to see him gone in the 2nd round to Detroit or St. Louis. Ghee could be really good with the right coaching.

FS Jeromy Miles - 6'1-5/8" 210 - Speed Score 127.98
Miles is an underrated prospect, who's speed is amazing. But his play on the field looks slow. He is one of those few guys that doesn't fit in the NFL when it comes to the instincts side of the equation.

SS Taylor Mays - 6'3-1/8" 230 - Speed Score 150.18
Mays. Well, he's just a prospect that has no football instincts and the highest speed score in the draft. Al Davis, here he comes... if Davis thinks S is a need.
