2010 Draft Grades - Carolina Panthers
By Scott DelleFave
Talk about this on our forums!
Hi all I am back for ScarDraft.com and it’s another day of my draft grades for this past year’s rookies.
Note: I will not be curving a grade because they were a later round pick or undrafted, I welcome/encourage discussion via email at ScottDelleFave@Scardraft.com
Once again, grades will range through A-F and there will be the occasional I for incomplete due to an injury before the pre-season.
The format for the first line is the round, the pick in the round they were selected, in the parentheses is the pick overall they were selected, their name, position, their height and weight and the college they attended.
Carolina Panthers

Round 2, Pick 16 (48) Jimmy Clausen QB 6'3" 222 Notre Dame
One of the most talked about QBs to come out of college, despite slipping into round 2, came off the bench after starter Matt Moore was placed on IR for the year and had 1552 passing yards, threw for three touchdowns, and nine interceptions and only completed 52.5% of his passes. Jimmy not exactly the living up to the hype from Notre Dame, with Andrew Luck staying in school; he will get a second year to prove himself. Grade C-

Round 3, Pick 14 (78) Brandon LaFell WR 6'2" 211 LSU
Brandon had a relatively disappointing season in fourteen games only having 38 catches for 468 yards and only one receiving touchdown. He also had one long run of 60 yards in week seventeen. Grade B-

Round 3, Pick 25 (89) (From Cardinals through Patriots) Armanti Edwards QB 5'11" 187 Appalachian State
Armanti converted to Wide Receiver, and thought to be possibly a wildcat type player; however he only played in three games amassing one carry for seven yards. Grade F

Round 4, Pick 26 (124) (From Cardinals through Jets) Eric Norwood LB 6'1" 245 South Carolina
Eric had thirteen tackles forced a fumble and got a sack in 2010 coming in off the bench; he will need more playing time in order to develop more. Grade C+

Round 6, Pick 6 (175) (From Raiders) Greg Hardy DE 6'4" 281 Mississippi
Another player that was pegged for a first round pick, but decided to stay in school and it cost him millions, played in fifteen games had 30 tackles and three sacks, forced two fumbles, and even scored a safety he showed flashes of why he was so highly thought of. Grade B-

Round 6, Pick 29 (198) (From Jets) David Gettis WR 6'3" 217 Baylor
Had a solid rookie year, with 37 catches for 508 yards and three touchdowns, I think he is a good compliment to an aging Steve Smith. Grade B

Round 6, Pick 33 (202) (Compensatory selection) Jordan Pugh DB 5'11" 200 Texas A&M
Played in fifteen games with a total of thirteen total tackles and had an interception played. Jordan played all over the Panthers secondary, more will be expected out of him come year two. Grade C

Round 6, Pick 35 (204) (Compensatory selection) Tony Pike QB 6'6" 223 Cincinnati
Completed half of his throws (6 for 12) for 47 yards, deemed not ready to play in the NFL when Carolina signed and started QB Brian St. Pierre (who only completed a total of 2 career passes)when Jimmy Clausen received a concussion. Grade F

Round 7, Pick 16 (223) RJ Stanford DB 5'11" 180 Utah
Was on the team’s practice squad most of the year, and got signed to the team in week 15, however wasn’t active for any of the final three games. Grade I

Round 7, Pick 42 (249) (Compensatory selection) Robert McClain DB 5'9" 195 Connecticut
Beat out Brian Witherspoon for a spot and amassed fifteen total tackles in his rookie year, hopefully makes more strides in 2011. Grade C+
